To all Members of Local 837,
Happy New Year!!!!!!
And with the new year brings new challenges. Last year we faced similar hurdles and it will require the same efforts from you
, our membership, to face these challenges this year. I'm looking forward to working with everyone again to fight whatever proposals
are suggested that takes our well earned pay away. The upcoming meeting scheduled for January 18th, will be postponed till next month
as it falls on a holiday. If anyone has any pressing issues, please let myself or John Thomas know so that we may address them.
As I have stated in previous emails, there is shop steward training coming up this winter. Some of you have expressed interest and
I have sent out the proposed dates to all so that you may be available. Anyone can check out this information by logging on to Council
81's website at www.council81.org.
Executive Board members
and Trustees, we will be scheduling an Eboard meeting this month or early next depending on everyone's availability. There are several
topics I would like to address and look forward to seeing you all there.
We are also currently
looking for a couple of people to fill 2 vacant Trustee positions in our Local. If anyone has the desire and would like to get involved
we would greatly appreciate it. Also, our Treasurer , Chris Gore, has been updating our website (www.local837.org) with pictures from
the big snowstorm we had a couple of weeks ago. If you get a chance, check it out, you may be in one of the pictures. Thanks again
everyone for your continued support of our Local.

To
All Members of Local 837,
As
you know, Council 81 and the union have been fighting the adoption of the current laws that govern overtime compensation and pay. This
has been an ongoing battle since July 1st of last year when the budget was passed. The union has since had hearings with P.E.R.B.
(public employee relations board) and numerous meeting with the Legislators and Governors Office. As a result of this persistence,
our voices and concerns are being heard by the Legislature. I have attached a copy of a letter that was sent to the Governors' office
on behave of the honorable Anthony J. DeLuca; Senate Pro Tem and the Speaker of the House Robert F. Gilligan. They have heard our
concerns and asked the Governors office to address this issue. We also need to hammer the point home by calling the governors
office and expressing our displeasure with the way overtime is now calculated. This law goes directly against the Merit
Rules for which we were hired and based our contract on. I encourage everyone to read this and call the Governors office today..it
CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!
